Darren Purse dreams of Port Vale glory
Micky Adams' men are currently second in League Two and travel to Rochdale this afternoon looking to get three of the five points they still need to go up.
Purse said: "My job is to get Port Vale promoted that is what I came here to do.
"I work hard each day to do that.
"Vale employs me and I am enjoying every minute of it. The lads and gaffer are superb.
"Throughout your career you only get a few chances at promotion.
"I have been playing for 18 or 19 years and have rarely had the chance to go up.
"I have only done it once at Birmingham when we got up to the Prem.
"This would be right up there as a similar achievement in my career. The club deserves it after all they By LIAM WALSH have been through."
Purse started off the season at Plymouth before being told to leave in January in order to reduce the wage bill.
Now instead of fighting the drop to the Conference, Purse is focusing his sights on League One and revealed he does not want to hang up his boots just yet.
He added: "Carl Fletcher at Plymouth said he needed to get rid of me. It was either I went or four or five young players had to go.
"From my point of view it has been good. I was leaving a struggling side to come to Port Vale who are looking for promotion. Hopefully we can get out of the division this year.
"I'm not getting any younger but I want to carry on playing for the next year or two.
"And promotion would be a great thing on my footballing CV.
"I try to train as much as I can and look after my body.
"I've aspirations to be a coach or manager.
"You are a long time retired after stopping playing football."
