Can interim coach Mike Woodson stay unbeaten
This forum is about engaging Knicks fans, so please feel free to comment, ask questions or give opinions.
The Knicks were less than hospitable in beating the Pacers, 115100, on Friday night to push interim coach Mike Woodson's record to 20. Had it not been for Indiana's 42point outburst in the final frame, New York could have easily won by 30 points. Smith was throwing down reverse alleyoop dunks, Steve Novak was doing the discount double check after hitting one of his four 3pointers and the Knicks as a team scored 52 points in the paint and 23 points off of fast breaks.
To many in the arena and watching at home, it was an undeniable thumping.
Doing it again on Saturday night in Indianapolis might not be as easy. First, the 2517 Pacers will likely be playing with recently acquired shooting guard Leandro Barbosa, who is sure to give coach Frank Vogel a legitimate scoring threat off the bench (Babrosa averaged 12.2 ppg while with Toronto this season before being dealt at the trade deadline).
Then, of course, there's the pride factor. The Pacers were embarrassed on Friday and to not respond on Saturday would be insult to any Hoosier that buys a ticket.
"We've got to understand what we're facing," Vogel said afterward. "This is an extremely talented team, maybe one of the most talented teams in the NBA,http://www.holisteroutlet.cc, and they're playing with a renewed sense of urgency because of the coaching change like all teams do with coaching changes. So they're a force now."
And Vogel should know. The Pacers won seven of the first eight games they played after he took over for fired coach Jim O'Brien last season.
Now, it seems, it's the Knicks turn to have a run under an interim head coach. Under Woodson, New York has outscored two opponents by a total of 57 points, with much of the offense coming in transition after defensive stops.
"It was incredible," center Tyson Chandler said after scoring 16 easy points against the Pacers on Friday. "We made it tough for them. We didn't let them breathe and we didn't let up at any time."
The Knicks will be without backup point guard Baron Davis, who didn't make the trip after straining his right hamstring on Friday. Regardless, the Knicks have Iman Shumpert and Mike Bibby who can fill in behind starting point guard Jeremy Lin.
New York's biggest concern, however, will be keeping Indiana's trio of Danny Granger, Paul George an Roy Hibbert in single digits for another game. Granger (nine points), Hibbert (four points) and George (five points) had a miserable game at Madison Square Garden and since they all average at least 12.0 ppg, it's hard to envision them having such a dismal performance again.
